Whole Foods will open its long-awaited natural and organic grocery store next month at The Shops at Merchants Walk in Huntsville.
The Texas retail chain announced on Facebook it will launch a 42,000-square-foot facility on the northeast corner of Bob Wallace Avenue and South Memorial Parkway on Nov. 14. A pre-opening ceremony will begin at 8 a.m. with store leaders, special guests, free coffee and grand opening deals.
The grocer specializes in natural foods free of artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, preservatives and hydrogenated fats. Whole Foods, which has stores in Birmingham and Mobile, has been one of the Rocket City’s most wanted retailers for years.
“Our new store will offer an unparalleled selection of high-quality natural and organic goods, along with a unique-to-Whole Foods Market Huntsville food venue,” said Jeremy Barnes, store team leader at Whole Foods in Huntsville, in a statement. “This store will be a destination for food and beverage lovers and healthy eating advocates, offering the best selection of ingredients for the home cook, alongside a variety of ready-to-eat meal options.”
In addition to Whole Foods, The Shops at Merchants Walk will be home to Local Taco, Maki Fresh Sushi Rolls & Japanese Grill, Farm Burger, Spa Sydell, Orangetheory Fitness, Mountain High Outfitters, The Masters Aveda Salon and lululemon athletica.
RCP Companies, a boutique real estate firm in Huntsville, is developing The Shops at Merchants Walk. Spokeswoman Lindsay Harper said last week construction is nearing completion at the mixed-use complex.
